In Samuel Taylor Coleridge's epic poem "Rime of the Ancient Mariner," the plight of parched sailors was a life or death struggle: "Water, water, everywhere, Nor any drop to drink."
Today, our world is living a similar struggle for clean water. Protecting and conserving water resources is emerging as one of the most crucial environmental concerns. Climate shifts, droughts and global water shortages are making an already thirsty planet even thirstier. It has been suggested that by 2025, two-thirds of the world's population will be trying to survive in water-stressed areas.
Still, Americans consume almost obscene amounts of water. We have a 1,000-gallon-a-day habit. But just like Americans are trying to reduce their carbon footprint, there are a growing number of consumers who also are trying to reduce their water footprint. That means reducing the water used at home not just by reducing water consumption but by being an overall smart consumer (it takes 24 gallons of water to make a single pound of plastic). The more we think about our overall environmental impact, the more we'll reduce our consumption of water.
Water is such an important environmental concern that the phrase "blue is the new green" - a nod to our dependence on water - is key to our new blue thinking.
We embrace the blue movement. Our water is purified (not filtered) using state of the art Reverse Osmosis technology. We do not deplete any valuable springs or natural water sources. We've discontinued bottling liters and individual-size bottles. Our company only offers 3-gallon and 5-gallon formats. Combine these water-saving measures with our other environmental initiatives and you can see we're true blue.
