Americans are thinking greener now than ever before. Consumers are demanding earth-friendly products. Retailers and manufacturers have responded to those demands by investing in environmentally-conscious initiatives. The groundswell is building.

According to a recent study, more than 84 percent of Americans believe it is a "moral obligation" to care for the environment, and 86 percent already participate in at least one green activity such as conserving energy in the home, recycling, driving a fuel-efficient car or buying recycled products (the study was conducted by Insight Research Group in partnership with HGTV and the Natural Resources Defense Council).

Green topics aren't a fad, they're here to stay, the study found. Americans aren't just paying lip service to the eco movement, they're committed to it. When asked what motivated them to go green, respondents in the same study said "it's good for the environment" (82 percent), "it helps future generations" (78 percent), "it's the right thing to do" (78 percent) and "it fits with my morals or beliefs" (73 percent).
